Method 6,youtube

Like a lot of other tools, you can experience overload.
Can you get RSS feeds from YouTube?

Has great potential for academic libraries.
Ideas for a video: how to renew books, how to find the dictionaries, what do you do with a book you are finished with, why it is important to keep the library clean and neat.

Those are just a few.

I chose this video because I think that librarians are not utilized enough by the Millennial Generation. I think this is a cool video. We need to stop taking ourselves so seriously.

Method 5, part 2

I checked out Picasa and thought it was easier to use than Flickr. I don't need all the options that Flickr has,but I think that I will try to use both until I am comfortable with them

Yes, I do plan to continue using online photo sharing.

On a business level, it is a good way to advertise what the library is doing for the patrons.

Method 5

This is the east wall of the new library. We moved in March 30,2009.

I am sure this is easier than I have made it. I have used Flickr before to find images for flyers at work.
What is frustrating to me is that for each site you have to have a sepaprate user name and password.
I created an acct in Flickr but will probably use Picassa as I already have an google account.

I have been working on this for several weeks. It seems to take me awhile to use a new tool.

Since it took me 6 tries to get a blog up. Do I sound frustrated. Yes, I am. Mostly with myself.

Method 4

http://feeds.feedburner.com/zenhabits?format=xml---this blog discusses ways to destress

http://www.tuaw.com/rss.xml--this is an unofficial apple blog.

http://www.macworld.com/rss.xml---about apple computers

http://feeds.feedburner.com/Got2begreen?format=xml---about sustainability.

I can see how this would be useful and save time. My problem is that I would have so many feeds that how would I keep up. One would have to be selective.

Method 3

Method 3
Cloud Computing

After reading the articles and watching the slide show, I am actually surprised at the way or ways we are connected with the world and with each other.
I am familiar with cloud computing in the public library;specifically, the OPAC.

I can see that cloud computing makes a librarian’s job both easier and more difficult.
Easier, in that, we are able to connect the student to materials previously not available.
More difficult, in that, as well as teaching students how to do research, we also will be teaching information literacy, web 2.0 skills. Why is this difficult-because students are in a hurry. Are they willing to take the time to learn how this is interconnected or have they absorbed this thru osmosis.

I do have some concerns which were raised in one article. The issues of security; being able to access files when needed. Having lived thru Hurricane Ike when there was no power for days, even weeks, do we know how to work and live without computers and the related issues.

Labels: security; information; reference.

Method 1 & 2

Methods 1 & 2

Web is information via the internet. Web 2.0 is information in multiple forms via the internet. It is like an octopus with multiple appendages. Social networks, file sharing, o

Library is a building with books and magazines and library staff. Library 2.0 is all that but taken to another dimension-the web dimension and all it entails. Allows a library to go to a home schooled individual, to troops in Iraq. We are not just managing information but sharing information.

With the advent of the Web, libraries and librarian seemed to abdicate to technology.

With Web 2.0, human beings are now in the technology.

We can be proactive in learning. We can become experience based learners.

Library 2.0 allows libraries to assist learners where they are in the knowledge journey not where we as librarians think they should be.

I enjoyed Mr. Abrams interview. He emphasized time management; organization. I especially liked the comment that libraries are the technology not just a building.

I start this process with trepidation; feeling technology handicapped. I am now on my way.
